The museum has been developing scientific studies and projects about cetaceans in the archipelago over the last few years. The museum is undoubtedly a place worth visiting due to all of it's collection especially the lifelike replicas on exhibit.

The first Archaeological Centre in the region
Solar do Ribeirinho is a 17th-century manor house. Today the fully restored building houses Machico's artefacts. The museum presents the city's 600-year history in and interactive and interesting way.

This piece is located in the hall of Fórum Machico and was made by the sculptor Mario Agostinelli as an homage to the Bailinho da Madeira dance. The sculpture first belonged to the Hotel Atlantis Madeira but was offered to the municipality by Fernanda Pires da Silva, president of Grupo Grão Pará.

Francisco Álvares de Nóbrega, one of the most original poets of his time, is considered an emancipated individual in relation to his time, his people, and the form of cultural development, officially instituted. He is characterised by his critical, biting, and satirical personality, a true free thinker, who did not hesitate to express in rhyme his points of view, often contrary to the status quo.

Situated at Rua Doutor João Abel de Freitas, O Borracheiro, by Jacinto Rodrigues is na homage to the Borracheiros of Porto da Cruz, wine carriers who took the “borracho” on their shoulders, a sack made from goat skin; represented on the bust by a barrel on the shoulder.
The sculpture "Na Rosa dos Ventos - Machico à proa" by Luís Paixão, from Machico, highlights the importance of Machico as a quay for the old sailors. It also intends to mark one of the greatest landmarks of the Region's history, "os Descobrimentos".
